TV is not dead! It’s still a popular news source. But the
fastest-growing platform is digital, especially tablets. People acknowledge
going after news recommendations from social-media sources, but they actually
prefer to find stories on their own from news sites like The New York Times and CNN.com. I used to get most of my news from AOL, but once they started running teases instead of news headlines, and they focused more on JayLo than Afghanistan, I started looking elsewhere.
Here's more about our news habits:
• About ¼ of
U.S. adults get their news from more than one device.
• Nearly half
(44%) own a smart phone, and 18%, a tablet.
• Most (70%)
get news from a desktop computer, but also more than half (56%) via
their tablets (note some overlap here).
• Of people
employed full-time, more than 3/5 (64%) own a tablet computer.
• People prefer
Twitter over Facebook as a news source.

Interesting. I get an afternoon news highlight e-mail from the NY Times, and also highlights and feature stories from the BBC and NPR on facebook. For a crisis unfolding, I will watch CNN on TV or on-line. I do own a tablet, but still no cell phone of any kind. Hah!
